The arrangement of the window affects the appearance of the entire room. Window decorations should fulfill not only decorative functions, but also practical ones. We look at blinds, roller blinds and curtains. Our tips will make it easier for you to choose a window covering.

Curtains, drapes, blinds, shutters – we have many options for covering our windows, so as to protect the rooms from the glaring sun or prying eyes of neighbors and passers-by. The most traditional way is to hang curtains and drapes in the windows, but nowadays we like to use blinds and shutters, which, by the way, also look good in the company of airy materials. What type of window coverings is worth opting for and how to choose them for our interiors?

Blinds

Blinds may be associated primarily with office spaces, but they are also successful in residential ones. We can choose between wooden, aluminum and bamboo blinds.

Wooden blinds

This is the most elegant and stylish type of blinds. They will fit into interiors decorated in industrial, rustic and Scandinavian styles. They give the rooms a cozy, warm atmosphere. Their disadvantages, on the other hand, include quite a high price, weight and lack of resistance to weather and moisture, so they should not be hung in bathrooms or kitchens. Wooden blinds are worth impregnating and maintaining regularly, so that they retain their original appearance for longer.

Aluminum blinds

They have many advantages – they do not break, do not rust, are relatively light and inexpensive. In addition, they are distinguished by their resistance to light and moisture, so you can hang them in bathrooms and kitchens. They come in a variety of colors, so you can easily match them to the room of your choice.

Bamboo blinds

They can be considered a compromise between aluminum and wooden blinds. Bamboo is a natural material, so window coverings made of it are ecological. Bamboo blinds are distinguished by their durability, and at the same time have a lighter construction and lower price than wooden models. They fit beautifully into interiors decorated in boho style.

Roller blinds

We distinguish between Roman blinds, pleated blinds, mounted on the wall, ceiling or window frame. Roman models can resemble curtains, except that they cover the windows from top to bottom, rather than from the sides. When rolled up, they form a draped fabric and perform a decorative function. They are made of different materials in many colors, so we can match them to the room. In the bedroom it is worth hanging blinds sewn from blackout fabric, and in the living room from light semi-permeable materials.

Pleated roller blinds, on the other hand, make it possible to precisely regulate the insolation of the interior. When rolling up the blind, pleated blinds roll up into an accordion. We can set them at any height and cover only a selected part of the window.

Curtains

Curtains are a classic window decoration. Contrary to appearances, they do not make the interior look old-fashioned. Nowadays we have such a wide range of colors and beautiful designs to choose from, that we can select the material to match the room’s design. In the bedroom, let’s opt for blackout curtains, and in the living room let’s hang models made of light, flowing fabrics. Curtains look good both in the company of delicate curtains, as well as blinds or shutters. They are also a much more decorative window covering, thanks to which any room, even decorated in an austere, minimalist style, gains a cozy character.
